- "In January 1950, in a small town outside Atlanta, an all-white jury convicted Clarence Henderson, a Black sharecropper, of murdering a white man while attempting to rape a white woman. The trial was conducted under armed guard and lasted just a single day ... The judge ordered him to be executed within a month. Henderson escaped Georgia's electric chair on appeal to the state's highest court. But despite mounting evidence that he was innocent, he would be tried and convicted of the same crime twice more over the next three years.
